On October 18, Ontario Centres of Excellence hosted its largest ever Annual General Meeting with over 300 attendees from across Ontario’s innovation ecosystem. Among the highlights from the event was the announcement of the Martin Walmsley award.
Dr. Abdul Rehman, CEO of SSIMWAVE was announced as the winner of the award, receiving $25,000 to further accelerate the company’s Viewer Intelligence platform. Co-founder and Chief Science Officer Dr. Zhou Wang accepted the award on behalf of SSIMWAVE at the OCE Annual General Meeting in Toronto.
The Martin Walmsley Award honours the achievements of an OCE-supported post-secondary student who has created an innovative start-up with an economic impact to Ontario. The innovation must address existing and emerging challenges in key sectors.
“I am honoured to receive the OCE Martin Walmsley Award on behalf of our entire team at SSIMWAVE,” says CEO Dr. Abdul Rehman. “OCE support was vital in our early days and continues to help us with our growth. We would also like to congratulate the Mind to Market Award winner Otto Motors. It is wonderful to see two companies from the University of Waterloo commercializing leading-edge ideas and solutions for our respective industries.”
